Jacqueline Phelps | Biography & Projects
High-concept stories about what drives us at our core – in worlds hidden from most of us.
I am interested in people whose inner conflicts drive them to radical decisions.I write unconventional high-concept stories within the elevated genre, mostly set in unusual worlds, which also have a universal emotional dimension. Social commentary is never an end in itself – it remains entertaining.
As a former costume stylist and actress, as well as a trained screenwriter, I learned early on to think in terms of my characters' perspectives and in images. As a practicing alternative psychotherapist, I deepen this perspective through my work with people – experiences that directly inform the development of my characters.
Following my state-recognized, three-year online-training as a screenwriter and dramaturg at Skript Akademie Berlin (2011–2013), my debut feature screenplay WORLD WIDE LOVE received an Honorable Mention at the international WriteMovies competition in Beverly Hills. This led to option negotiations with a German production company, as well as a co-writing collaboration on a feature film project with a director who has received the German Film Award.
During a health-related professional leave, I used the periods when I was able to work to develop my own projects and further deepen my craft, including through TOP: Talente e. V., Munich. I am currently developing my identity drama BAHIRA as a limited series and working in parallel on a second series concept. I live and work in Hamburg & Hitzacker (Elbe).
